Dr Paul Govind
Dr Paul Govind holds a doctorate in environmental planning law, an LLM/MPhil from the University of Sydney, and a BA/LLB from Macquarie Law School. He is also admitted to practice as a solicitor in New South Wales. Paul has extensive teaching and research expertise in land use planning law especially concerning the intersection with biodiversity loss and protection, climate law and sustainable development at the national, international and transnational scales. Recently, Paul has published on environmental planning law and the impact of land use development on First Nation’s relationality with nature, litigation concerning biodiversity offsetting in NSW and the role of planning law decision-making in the context of extinction and the importance of recognizing diverse interpretations of nature in financial transactions for both public and private entities. Paul has strong experience in providing expert consultancy for local government (for example, Hornsby Sire Council and Blue Mountains City Council), state environmental departments and agencies and international research bodies that have an ongoing engagement with Australian law and regulatory standards. Paul has hosted various conferences and events on cutting edge issues of planning and environmental law that have catered for both academic and professional audiences and contributed to various submissions to government at the state and commonwealth level.
