James has 15 years’ experience as a corporate and financial services lawyer, working in range of legal roles in the private and public sectors. His focus is on providing legal advice and support that help to add value to clients’ businesses. Prior to joining H & H Lawyers, James worked at the law firms Buddle Findlay (Auckland) and Hesketh Henry (Auckland), and as a lawyer at the New Zealand’s Financial Markets Authority (FMA), where his role included advising on the development and implementation of updated financial markets (securities) law, advising on the use of regulatory powers and engaging with market participants. James is also the Director, International at the College of Law Australia and was an adjunct lecturer at the College of Law (Australia & NZ) and at AUT University (Auckland). He is an Officer of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA) and a Regional Governor (Australia) of the International Association of Korean Lawyers (IAKL).

  • Advised on complex cross-border transactions across multiple industries.

  • Advised on company structuring and regulatory aspects of investing in Australia and New Zealand for both listed and non-listed South Korean companies.

  • Advised listed and non-listed foreign companies on acquisitions and sales of major companies and business assets in Australia and New Zealand.

  • Acted as independent legal advisor for a KRX listed company on acquisitions and disposal of interests in Australian companies and businesses.
